Description
Yellow Travertine Marble is a type of sedimentary limestone, categorized under the travertine group. Despite being commonly referred to as “marble” in the trade, it is not a metamorphic stone. Instead, it is formed by the deposition of calcium carbonate from mineral-rich springs over thousands of years. The stone is known for its golden to yellow hues, layered texture, and natural surface cavities.
Color and Appearance
- Primary Color: Golden yellow to mustard
- Secondary Tones: Cream, white, tan, ochre, and light brown
- Pattern:
- Vein Cut: Displays linear, banded layers parallel to natural bedding
- Cross Cut: Shows more random or cloud-like patterning
- Surface Texture: Naturally porous, with small cavities and pits due to gas bubbles trapped during formation
The tone intensity may vary from soft beige-yellow to rich amber, depending on the quarry and depth of extraction.
Origin and Quarry Locations
Yellow Travertine is mainly quarried in:
- Turkey – Denizli and Afyon regions
- Iran
- Some occurrences are also reported in Italy, Mexico, and Peru
